Feeling Abandoned

(Words in Bold and/or underlined are for emphasis; verses quoted are from the CSB – Christian Standard Bible)

When I did a “Search assist” on the internet for “what does it mean to be abandoned,” this came up:

“To be abandoned means to be left without needed protection, care, or support, often in a state of disuse or neglect.  It can refer to people, such as an abandoned child, or objects, like an abandoned car or building.  Abandonment often implies that someone or something is left in a vulnerable state, without the support they need.”

Perhaps you are experiencing a “dark” period of time in your life where you feel really “low,” are very discouraged and even depressed.

You feel God has abandoned you.

I have felt that way on a number of occasions during my own life.

When that happens, we need to stop and remind ourselves of the great and wonderful promises of God in His Word.

As part of the Great Commission, the Lord Jesus said, “…I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:20)

God told Moses and then Moses communicated to Joshua, “in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land the Lord swore to give to their ancestors.  You will enable them to take possession of it. The Lord is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”  (Deuteronomy 31:7-8)

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you; I will help you;

I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”  (Isaiah 41:10)

“Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.”  (Hebrews 13:5)

[The thought of refraining from “the love of money” goes along with the promise that “my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:19)].

Another verse along those lines: the Psalmist said, “I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread. (Psalm 37:25)

“Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger,

for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.”  (Psalm 23:4)

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you,

and the rivers will not overwhelm you.”  (Isaiah 43:2)

Once we trust Jesus and make Him our Lord and Savior, we are immediately indwelt by the Holy Spirit.  In addition, the Lord said, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”  (John 14:23).

And so, we can confidently say that God is with us and in us, permanently, sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)

Therefore, no matter what trial/suffering you are experiencing, know that God is going through it with you.

In conclusion, at certain times in our life, we need to pray and also remind our Father of His promises, taking comfort knowing that His love is everlasting and that He will help us and never abandon us.
